Kwanjang Wyatt poses with his "KinderKicks" group after they received their White Belts from the First M.I.D.S. Promotion Test
One of our newest training locations is at the Maryland International Day School, better known as MIDS. Our first class began in October, 2007 and was full of energetic youth from 4 years old to 13 years old, and couragous adults, who were all eager to learn the skill of Tae Kwon Do. The younger "KinderKicks" were taught by Kwanjang Wyatt, while the advance youth and the adults were taught by Master Greg Davis. The classes are held every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon from 4:30 until 5:15 for the KinderKicks and from 4:30 until 6:00 for the older kids and adults.
Training is very rigid and disciplined, yet, exciting and fun for everyone. In February, we produced our first testing class of youth white belts, who performed exceedingly well.
By the end of the school year, we had made some tremendous strides, by having 8 students from MIDS compete in the JW Spring Classics Martial Arts Tournament, on May 3, 2008, at Riverdale Baptist Senior High Schooland. Almost all of the students won 1st place in their respective division; those who did not get 1st place, received 2nd or 3rd place and were only beaten by their own WTKDC school mate.

A choice few of the students continued their training at MIDS during the summer months at Kwanjang Wyatt's Summer Training Session, which lasted from June 23, until August 28, 2008. At the summer session, the students' training was MUCH more intense and required a lot more effort, discipline and concentration, but in the end, each parent agreed that it was all worth it.
We are also very proud to announce that Ricarda Mills and Martino Dennis were promoted to the rank of 8th Gup Gold belt. They both put on a tremendous showing at the Annual Summer Simsa in Reston, Virginia.
Class starts in October, with a new group and a new attitude. We have a lot to do this fall, including a few local tournaments, demonstrations and belt testing. If you would like for your child to be a part of our winning group of future leaders, please speak with Kwanjang Wyatt.

The simsa will begin at 9:00 a.m., with the advance belts and will end at around 2:00 p.m. with the White Belts and No Belts.

Qualifying students from all of the locations are invited to participate in this simsa, however, you MUST turn in your Testing Permission Sheet and your testing fees to Kwanjang Wyatt by the appropriate date. The Testing Permission Sheets will be distributed to all students in mid February.

The First Reston Outdoor Workshop was a BIG Success!
And we're getting ready for the next one!

Kwanjang Wyatt lectures his group on safety techniques

Thanks to the support of several of the parents and the students, the 1st annual Reston Fall Outdoor Workshop was a complete success. More than 45 youth and adults joined us for our fall workout where we worked on kicks, forms, and of course, self defense.
Lots of parents joined in and several students brought their friends. After the three hour workout (which went by very quickly), we enjoyed some delicious ethnic foods that were provided by the parents. Everyone is looking forward to the Spring Outdoor Workshop, which will be held on Sunday, March 29, 2009. Check out some of the workshop pictures by clicking on this link.
WE NEED PICTURES!
I know that several of you have taken plenty of pictures of the class over the years and I am asking you to share them with us for the WTKDC website.
If you have any good quality pictures of our students please allow us to use them on the site. We can also use pictures of some of our students at other activities such as Scouting events, recitals, honor ceremonies, etc.
Please email your pix to me at WTKDC1@aol.com

We've got new White Belts!

Six Year Old, Sydney McCall is just one of our 9 new students to receive their White Belts at MIDS.
During the last session, several of our new students took their test for the rank of 10th Gup White Belts and passed with flying colors!
At first, they were a bit nervous, but as they got into the simsa, they performed as if they had been doing this for years! We now have three beautiful young ladies, 4 year old Brooke Hand, 6 year olds Sydney McCall and Elizabeth Cayenne McCall (no relations), along with 4 year old Johnathan Agrinya, 5 year olds Drew W. Moore and Peris E. Missouri, and finally, 6 year olds Chase Albritton, and Victor D. Maldonado, Jr.
Master Wyatt was very proud of the efforts and we are looking forward to a long future with each of them in the new year. It's now time to start training for the JW Spring Classics Martial Arts Championships, which will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2009, at Oxon Hill, Senior High School.

To New 10th Gup White Belt, Sydney McCall...,
IT'S MORE THAN JUST A BELT!
One of the requirements of becoming a WTKDC Black Belt is that each Black Belt Candidate must write a 5 page essay entitled "What It Means to Become a WTKDC Black Belt" and New 10th Gup White Belt, Sydney McCall is off to a great start.
Even though she just received her belt a few weeks ago, she is already ahead of the game with her writing skills. Take a look at what she wrote about how she felt when she was awarded her belt. This was actually written by Sydney...nothing was doctored or re-written.
