Think You're Too Old For Tae Robics...
Check out our senior participant!
At 77 years old, Walter Pitulej participates in our High Impact Tae Robics class EVERY Saturday, and does the entire one hour session!
Walter says, "ya gotta keep moving and stay active."
If you think you're too old to participate in our Tae Robics program, think like our senior participant, 77 year old Walter Pitulej.
Walter Pitulej, was born in 1930, in Kalusz, Ukraine (at that time a part of Poland). After surviving WWII, and working as a kitchen worker/helper for the U.S. Army in occupied Austria during the 1950s, he emigrated to the United States in 1957. He worked in a factory in Garfield, NJ, at the Stull Engraving Company, for 35 years. Walter moved down to Reston, Virginia in June of 2006 to be near his 2 children and only grand daughter.
He started taking the class after watching his son, Robert and daughter-in-law, Donna participate in two classes at the Reston Community Center. He would baby-sit his grand daughter, Sydney, from the sidelines of the class, and then started jumping into the class for a few minutes at a time. His daughter-in-law signed him up for a class and he's been hooked ever since.

77 year old Walter Pitulej and his son, Robert, his daughter-in-law, Donna, and his grand daughter, Sydney.
Tae Robics helps him stay active, gets his heart rate pumping, and allows him to spend a little quality time with his son and daughter-in-law. He also likes providing a little encouragement and entertainment to all of the "youngsters" in the class.
He starts preparing his workout clothes the Thursday before each Saturday class. At age 77, Walter says, "ya gotta keep moving and stay active." Tae Robics helps him stay active, gets his heart rate pumping, and allows him to spend a little quality time with his son and daughter-in-law. He also likes providing a little encouragement and entertainment to all of the "youngsters" in the class. His goals are to get his wife of the same age to take the class, and to get to a level of fitness as good as Master Wyatt, "Boy that guy has energy!", he says.
Every morning Walter and his wife, Susan, "roll around on the carpet," as he likes to say, doing push-ups, sit-ups, and some stretching exercises. For most of his life exercise equated to hard work for Walter - working on a farm in Slovakia, working in construction in Austria, working in a factory in America, yard work, cutting the grass, and shoveling snow. Currently he likes to take walks in the beautiful Reston community with his daughter-in-law's and son's two dogs - Pani (German Shepherd) and Duchess (German Shepherd/Black Lab mix). Walter also enjoys ice skating occasionally in his old leather hockey skates, and swimming at New Jersey's shores and Reston's pools. Walter is confident that he is still able to beat his 6-year old grand daughter in a foot race!
