The Washington Tae Kwon
Do Club is one of the many organizations sanctioned under SIMBA
DOJANG, INC., in Southeast, Washington, D. C. It was created in May of 1983 under the direction
of Reginald Moten and James Wyatt. Today, the WTKDC instructors have
trained, coached and developed the martial arts skills of more
than 4,000 students of all ages – from 3 years old to over
70 years old; proving that you are never too young (or too old)
to take martial arts.

All the adult Black Belt instructors are Tae Kwon
Do certified, and have at least 5 years of experience in martial
arts training, which assures that each student will be taught
with safe, effective, and proven teaching methods and techniques
that will allow them to learn and reach their maximum potential.
While we specialize in the art of Tae Kwon
Do, many of our Black Belts have expanded their knowledge in the
martial arts and have brought their new skills and knowledge back
to us. We now have incorporated many aspects of several different
styles into our system, including:
While our base will always be Tae Kwon Do, these
new areas of the arts help to make us one of the most well rounded
martial arts schools in the area.” Also, coming to the WTKDC
in the near future will be the art of KENDO!
Specializing in the traditional Korean style of
martial arts, The Washington Tae Kwon Do Club has developed an
extremely disciplined, intense, and rigid training program that
develops skills and abilities in areas such as:
- Basic Fundamentals
- Expert Techniques
- Traditional Forms
- Creative Forms
- Martial Arts Weaponry
- Korean Terminology
- Martial Arts Etiquette
- Self Defense
- Sport and Tournament Competition
Our students also enjoy activities as a group outside of the martial
arts arena, such as: Roller and ice skating, the Annual WTKDC
Banquet, picnics, dances, cabarets, swimming, camping trips, skiing,
beach trips, amusement park trips, and several other special events.
Over the past five years, the club has won more than 1,000 trophies
and awards in several of the local, regional, and national tournament
competitions; and have justly earned the title of being "One
of Washington's Winningest Martial Art Schools!" some of
the students have even gone to become top competitors in the Annual
DC Capital Games, the Maryland State Games, and the local and
National Law Enforcement and Fire Fighter Olympics. And just as
impressive, some of the students have competed, and won, in the
National AAU Karate and National AAU Tae Kwon Do and the USTU
(United States Tae Kwon Do Union) competitions.
